Great Falls National Park and Wolf Trap

I flew to Dulles Airport yesterday and spent the night at my friend Linda‘s apartment in Fairfax, Virginia. Tonight we both fly “over the pond” to London.

This morning we headed out into the countryside. The trees are magnificent.

We arrived at Great Falls National Park where the Potomac is squeezed through the Mather Gorge.

A kayakers playground

I am particularly fond of this area as I summered here with my grandparents in the 50’s and 60’s. In fact here is a picture of my mother, my grandmother, and my great grandmother taken from practically the same spot.

After we left the falls, we visited Wolf Trap, the acclaimed outdoor concert venue. There we saw a group of teenagers jamming with a master drummer and dancer.

I want to close this post with a photo taken last Sunday in UTC: Bruno and I are with my niece Erika, her husband Chris, and her daughter Isabel. It makes me smile every time I see it. I hope it makes you smile too.

Best.

Mary
